Griffin Volleyball Trio Stars On CACC Weekly Report after 3-0 Week

New Haven, Conn. - (10/3/2016) – Receiving quality performance throughout the roster, the Chestnut Hill College women’s volleyball team captured three Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) wins and placed three student-athletes on this week’s report. Senior middle hitter Emily Koehler (Bath, Pa.) was honored as the CACC Player of the Week, senior libero Regina Trabosh (Norristown, Pa.) garnered a share of the CACC Defensive Player of the Week award, and freshman outside hitter Reily Byxbee (Indianapolis, Ind.) landing on the league’s weekly Honor Roll.

The Griffins’ three-match week began with a Tuesday night, home, CACC affair with Goldey-Beacom College (3-4, 1-4). Chestnut Hill College (7-9, 5-3) held off a late rally in the third set by the Lightning to clinch a pivotal CACC victory, 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 28-26). The two teams were evenly matched in the early going, with a Koehler kill putting the hosts up, 14-13. The Griffins owned an 18-16 edge a little later, but the Lightning went on a 4-0 mini-run that gave them a 20-18 advantage. After calling a timeout, Chestnut Hill College scored seven of the final 10 points to secure a 25-23 first-set victory. The momentum was enough for the Scarlet and Gold to sweep the match with succeeding victories of 25-18 and 28-26.

Koehler offered six kills and five block assists in the victory. Byxbee matched Koehler’s six kills while adding an assist, an ace, and five digs to her performance against the Lightning. Trabosh totaled two assists, an ace, and 26 digs in the CACC win.

On Friday night, Chestnut Hill College was down 2-1 after Wilmington University (6-8, 3-2) scored respective wins of 25-20 and 25-17 in the second and third sets of that CACC match. But with their backs against the wall, the Griffins rallied for a 3-2 (25-19, 20-25, 17-25, 25-22, 15-10) league victory with consecutive wins of 25-22 and 15-10 silencing the home crowd. Trabosh fell just three digs shy of her single-match record (45 vs. Georgian Court University on 10/7/15) and scored three aces. Koehler and Byxbee each recorded 14 kills. Koehler tallied hers on a .333 (14K-3E-33TA) hitting percentage and paired them with three blocks, while Byxbee matched her successful strikes with 14 digs for her first career double-double.

Saturday’s 3-1 (25-14, 25-17, 19-25, 25-16) CACC victory over Concordia College (NY) made it three wins in a row for Chestnut Hill College. Koehler led the Scarlet and Gold with a dozen (12) kills on an impressive .407 (12K-1E-27TA) hitting percentage while Byxbee offered three kills and three digs. Trabosh captained the defense with 18 digs.

Koehler finished the week with 32 kills on a .321 (32K-7E-78TA) hitting percentage while additionally recording an assist, and 12 block assists for a team-high 38 points over the three-match week. Byxbee totaled 23 kills, two assists, an ace, 22 digs, and a block assists, while Trabosh offered 10 assists, six aces, and 86 digs.
