Siqueira Scores Spot on CACC Weekly Honor Roll
New Haven, Conn. - (10/17/2016) – Sophomore Daniela Siqueira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) became just the second Griffin to appear on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Tennis Weekly Report this season, drawing an Honor Roll mention on the latest league edition. Chestnut Hill College’s representative in the fifth singles flight and member of the Scarlet and Gold’s number two doubles team, Siqueira had a racket in two points of the Griffins’ narrow 5-4 loss to the University of the Sciences (USciences) on Saturday, October 15.
In a hard-fought fall season finale, the Chestnut Hill College (CHC) (0-8, 0-7) pushed CACC foe USciences to the limit, narrowly dropping a 5-4 decision at the CHC Tennis Courts. The Griffins opened the afternoon match strong, with Siqueira and senior Laure-Anne Josso (Vannes, France) earning an 8-5 victory over USciences’ (10-4, 4-3 CACC) number two duo. But the Devils struck back, taking the final two doubles points to enter singles play with a 2-1 edge.
The Griffins knotted the match at 2-2, following Siqueira's 6-2, 6-1 triumph over freshman Gabrielle Soriano (Oreland, Pa.) at the fifth singles flight. Unfortunately, the Devils would take the next two points at number six singles (6-0, 6-0) and number one singles (6-4, 6-4) to take a 4-2 advantage. The Scarlet and Gold earned their third point of the match at the fourth pairing, where sophomore Julia Bellon (Indaiatuba, Brazil) endured for a 2-6, 6-3, 7-5, victory (4-3). Still, the visitors clinched victory (5-3) at the third flight, 6-1, 4-6, 6-0. The Griffins earned the final point of the day at number two singles, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3.
The Chestnut Hill College women's tennis team returns to play the spring of 2017. The College will serve as host to the upcoming CACC Women's Tennis Championships for the fifth consecutive season. The CACC Quarterfinals will kick off the tournament, which begins on Saturday, October 22, with a 10:00 a.m. match between #1 Goldey-Beacom College and the winner of Tuesday's, October 18, CACC Opening Round challenge between #5 Philadelphia University and #4 USciences (2:00 p.m. @ USciences).
