New Haven, Conn. – (11/2/2016) – Performing well at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional Championships and leading Chestnut Hill College to October wins over West Chester University (8-1 on October 5) and the University of the Sciences (USciences) (9-0 on October 7), sophomore Pierre Kohler (Les Sable d’Olonne, France) and freshman Antoine Gautier (Eysines, France) were respectively named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player and Rookie of the Month. The Scarlet and Gold duo were also named to the same titles for their play in September.

At the ITA East Regional Championships, on October 1 thru 3, Kohler took a first-round bye before scoring a 6-2, 6-0, triumph over Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) junior Xavier Aubron (Herouville, France). He exited the tournament a round later, but teamed with junior Jonathan Ducretot (Antibes, France) in the Men's Doubles Championship draw to follow a first round bye with a pair of 8-4 wins over UDC teams. They first took down junior Diego Pinto (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) and junior Alexia Baguelin (Le Houlme, France) before triumphing over Bozic and junior Marco Feligioni (Citta di Castello, Italy). Unfortunately, their run ended in the quarterfinal round, where Merrimack College junior Mikhail Belov (Krasnoarmeyskoy, Russia) and senior Nick Majewski (Brewster, Mass.) advanced by an 8-6 final.

Just two days later, on October 5, the Griffins’ dispatched West Chester University by an 8-1 final. Chestnut Hill College (3-0) gained the initial advantage after Kohler and Ducretot endured for a 9-7 triumph at number one doubles. The victory spurred the Griffins on for six straight singles wins. Gautier supplied the point at number fourth singles with his 6-3, 6-0, triumph.

Chestnut Hill College concluded their fall schedule with 9-0 sweep of USciences on October 7. The Griffins gained the upper hand in the non-conference clash with a 3-0 edge in doubles action. Their fortune followed to singles play where Gautier and Kohler won back-to-back singles points with respective wins at number five (6-2, 6-0) and number one singles (2-6, 6-3, 6-0).

The Chestnut Hill College men's tennis team will return to action in 2017 as they open their spring competition with their annual late-February trip to Florida.
