Kuhnen Earns CACC Honor Roll Recognition

New Haven, Conn. - (2/20/2017) – Earning a critical Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) split in last week’s competitions at Wilmington University (W, 95-85 on February 15) and at the University of the Sciences (USciences) (L, 59-65 on February 18), Chestnut Hill College senior guard Caity Kuhnen (Binghamton, N.Y.) earned recognition on the CACC Weekly Honor Roll. Kuhnen recorded a double-double to open the week, scoring 22 points and grabbing 10 rebounds to lead the Griffins past the Wildcats 95-85. In her encore performance, Kuhnen scored 12 points and grabbed five rebounds in a tightly contested loss to USciences on February 18.

The second-quarter squeeze of the Chestnut Hill College was the determining factor in the victory at Wilmington University as the Griffins limited the Wildcats to 10 point in the frame to secure a 39-35 halftime edge and an eventual 95-85 victory. Four Griffins scored in double figures, highlighted by Kuhnen’s double-double. Junior guard Vicky Tumasz (North Wales, Pa.) netted a career-high 27 points, going 4-of-11 (.363) from long range and a perfect 7-of-7 (1.000) from the free throw line. Sophomore Jaeda Wildgoose (Somerset, N.J.) scored 19 points and added eight rebounds, with sophomore guard Mary Trossi (Somerset, N.J.) narrowly missing a triple-double (12 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists) in the victory.

The second game of the week was a low-scoring affair for Chestnut Hill College, with freshman forward Shannon Glenn (Philadelphia, Pa.) kept the Scarlet and Gold in contention. She hit four from long range (4-of-7, .571), shooting the Griffins back into the fray during a 27-point third quarter that narrowed the gap to single digits, 56-47, for the final frame. But there, USciences stood their ground, warding off a late Chestnut Hill College push for a 65-59 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory. Glenn finished with 17 points, three rebounds, and two assists

CACC South Division leader, USciences led Chestnut Hill College by four points, 18-14, at the end of the first quarter. But the Griffins only recorded six points in the second period, allowing the Devils to take a comfortable 37-20 halftime lead. Glenn, who scored just six point in the first half, sparked the Griffin rally early in the second half with her third long range basket of the affair, 40-23 (9:24).

From there, the Scarlet and Gold controlled the pace, reducing the spread to single digits, 50-41, on a layup from Wildgoose just past the four-minute mark (3:51) of the third quarter, and pulling within two points, 59-57, on a layup from junior forward Nicole Parriski (Burlington, N.J.) at 4:34 of the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, the Devils scored just enough to deny the comeback in a 65-59 finish.

Glenn finished with 17 points, three rebounds and two assists, with Kuhnen adding 12 points and five rebounds. Trossi provided nine points, five rebounds, four assists, and a steal at the point for Chestnut Hill College.

The Chestnut Hill College women’s basketball team wraps up regular season play on Tuesday, February 21, when they host Goldey-Beacom College in their annual “Play4Kay” contest, in a battle for second place in the CACC South Division. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
