The Griffins (3-1) opened the 2017 spring campaign against National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III power TCNJ (1-0), falling by a 6-3 margin to the Lions. Chestnut Hill College appeared to be rust free at the start of the afternoon with juniors Lucas Bocaletto (Itatiba, Brazil) and Pedro Festugato Regalin (Caxias do Sul, Brazil) leading off the scoring with their 8-4 win at number two doubles (1-0). The next Griffin point came at number one doubles, where Kohler and Ducretot secured an 8-6 win (2-0). Unfortunately, the next four points went to TCNJ; the first came as a dramatic 8-7 (3) win at number three doubles (2-1).
The following three Lion wins came in singles play. The home side first claimed number one singles 6-3, 6-0, (2-2) and then succeed at number four singles, 6-3, 7-5, (3-2) and number three singles, 6-1, 1-6, 6-2, (4-2) before Chestnut Hill College was able to interrupt the streak with Kohler's 7-6 (3), 1-6, 6-3, win at number two singles (4-3). Unfortunately, the Lions' clincher came soon after as they took the point at number five singles, 6-4, 7-5, (5-3) and eventually the point at number six singles, 6-3, 6-4, (6-3) as well.
