Kohler and Gautier Continue Run On CACC Weekly Men’s Tennis Report

New Haven, Conn. - (4/2/2017) – Weekly Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) recognition continued this week for sophomore Pierre Kohler (Les Sables d'Olonne, France) and freshman Antoine Gautier (Eysines, France), who appeared on the league’s weekly Honor Roll after leading Chestnut Hill College to a 2-1 week of competition against La Salle University (W, 8-1 on March 29), #47 Queens College (L, 2-7 on April 1), and Bloomfield College (W, 9-0 on April 2). Kohler was 5-0, winning all three of his number one singles matches and working with senior Jonathan Ducretot (Antibes, France) for a pair of wins at number one doubles. Meanwhile, Gautier earned two number five singles wins and a number four singles win in addition to a pair of doubles wins with sophomore Felix Andre (Berlin, Germany).

Chestnut Hill College (6-5, 1-0) served as hosts for their coach's alma mater on Wednesday, March 29, as they welcomed La Salle University (4-9) to campus for an afternoon dual match. In the women's match, the Griffins battled the Explorers to a 6-3 loss, but the twin bill ended as a split with the men topping their cross-city rivals by an 8-1 final. Kohler scored the Scarlet and Gold's winning point in the men's match, defeating sophomore Francesco Mowery (Bethlehem, Pa.) in the top singles match, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. He also joined Ducretot for an 8-1 win at number one doubles. Meanwhile, Gautier triumphed with Andre at number three doubles, 8-2, and on his own at number five singles, 8-3.

The Griffins' tough spring schedule continued on Saturday, April 1, with a pair of matches at Queens College. The Chestnut Hill College men's and women's tennis teams fought valiantly, but lost their respective ends of the twin bill to the Knights - who currently offer the nation's #47 men's team and #44 women's team – 7-2 and 9-0. The Scarlet and Gold won their only two points of the afternoon in the men's number one doubles, 8-6, and men's number one singles, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4, flights. Kohler had a hand in both of the Griffins’ points, combining with Ducretot for an 8-6 win at number one doubles and scoring a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4, comeback win over junior Jui Mao (Taipei, Taiwan) at number one singles.

Getting a crisp early-spring afternoon, Chestnut Hill College opened their long-awaited CACC schedule with a Sunday, April 2, match at Bloomfield College. The Griffins gave the Bears little leeway, winning the opening three doubles matches and the bottom two singles flights en route to a 9-0 shutout. Senior Pedro Oranges de Figueredo (Sao Paulo, Brazil) scored the clincher at number six singles, 6-0, 6-1. Kohler scored a 6-4, 6-1, win at number one singles and combined with Ducretot for an 8-0 win at number one doubles. Gautier took the number four singles match 6-0, 6-1, after teaming with Andre for an 8-1 win at number three doubles.

Briefly breaking from CACC play, Chestnut Hill College visits Millersville University for a 2:00 p.m. match on Friday, April 7.
