Kohler Named Player of the Week, Gautier Earns Spot on Honor Roll

New Haven, Conn. - (4/11/2017) – Going 2-0 with a pair of 7-2 wins, the Chestnut Hill College men’s tennis team had two honorees named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Weekly Honor Roll. Sophomore Pierre Kohler (Les Sables d'Olonne, France) was named the Player of the Week, while freshman Antoine Gautier (Eysines, France) earned a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll. The Griffins (8-5, 2-0 CACC) opened the week with a 7-2 victory over CACC foe Post University (April 8), before topping the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) by the same margin on April 10.

In the opening match against Post University, The Griffins capitalized on a 2-1 doubles lead with victories in all but number two singles. The clincher came from Kohler, who won the number one singles flight, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. The first Chestnut Hill College point came at number three doubles, where sophomore Felix Andre (Berlin, Germany) and partner Gautier endured for a, 8-1 win (1-0). Kohler and senior Jonathan Ducretot (Antibes, France) pushed the Griffins' lead to 2-0 before Post University (9-6, 3-0) earned their first point in the second team flight, 9-7.

Sophomore Victor Iove (Tournai, Belgium) extended the Chestnut Hill College leas to 3-1 with his 6-1, 6-2 victory leading off the singles victories. The Eagles briefly delayed the Griffins win with their 6-3, 6-4 win at number two singles (3-2) but a 1-6, 6-3, 10-7 Gautier comeback at number five singles (4-2) and Kohler's third set win in a competitive number one singles flight clinched the match for the Scarlet and Gold. Andre and Ducrtot also scored singles win; the former at number three singles (1-6, 6-3, 10-7) and the latter at number four singles (7-5, 3-6, 6-3).

In the non-conference match against the Firebirds, Iove and senior Pedro Oranges de Figueredo (Sao Paulo, Brazil) won Chestnut Hill College (8-5, 2-0 CACC) their first point of the men's match with their 8-5 win at number three doubles. UDC (6-4) evened the match with an 8-2 win at number two doubles, but the Scarlet and Gold ended the stalemate with Kohler and Ducretot's 8-4 win at number one doubles. Kohler made it 3-1 Griffins with his 2-6, 6-2, 7-6, triumph at number one singles and it quickly advanced to 4-1 after a 6-7, 6-0, 6-3, win at number two singles from Andre. The Firebirds then scored a 6-3, 7-5, win at number four singles to reduce the deficit to 4-2, before Ducretot's deciding point at number three singles, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5.

Junior Pedro Festugato Regalin (Caxias do Sul, Brazil) and Iove recorded the Griffins final two points at number six, 6-2, 6-3, and number five, 6-2, 6-7, 10-5, singles, respectively.
