Mezzatesta and LaRosa Garner CACC Golf Weekly Honor Roll Mentions
New Haven, Conn. - (10/10/2017) – Led by a trio of sub-80 shooters, Chestnut Hill College improved to a sixth place (6th of 9, 323-309, 632, +64) finish by the conclusion of Post University’s Eagles Invitational. Tops among that Scarlet and Gold threesome was sophomore Taylor Mezzatesta (Forest Hill, Md.), who also improved his individual standing, to a tie for 15th (78-75, 153, +11), with a second-round 75 (+4). Behind him placed freshman Jack LaRosa (Bristol, Pa.), who shot a 76 (+5) to finish in a tie for 20th (79-76, 155, +13). Both were recognized on the most recent Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Golf Weekly Honor Roll.
Former Griffin, Sam Riemer (Canton, Mass.) was the top performer (2nd, 75-70, 145, +3) for tournament winner (1st of 9, 297-294, 591, +23), Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU). But St. Thomas Aquinas College (STAC) senior Hamish Houston (East Sussex, England) held on for the individual crown at Watertown Golf Club with his final score of 143 (1st, 71-72, 143, +1).
Mezzatesta fared three strokes better (75, +4) than he did on his first 18 holes, elevating him from a tie for 20th into a tie for 15th. LaRosa and classmate, Jake Kehoe (Powell, Ohio) also finished the second day of play with sub-80 scores; the former shot a 76 (+5) to finish in a tie for 20th (79-76, 155, +13), while the latter improved by eight strokes (76, +5) to knot him in 33rd with three others who completed the event with 160 (84-76, +18) strokes. Fellow freshmen, Dan Harrington (Pomfret Center, Conn.) and Tyler Marchese (Dunmore, Pa.) respectively tied for 43rd (83-82, 165, +23) and 50th (83-84, 167, +26). Sophomore Shawn Mayer (Brick, N.J.) also competed in the invitational, placing 55th (96-86, 182, +40).
The Chestnut Hill College golf team concludes their fall schedule this weekend, Saturday, October 14, and Sunday, October 15, at the University of the Sciences’ (USciences) Devils Classic.
