New Castle, DE – (10/1/2009) – The Chestnut Hill College women's volleyball team visited Wilmington University this evening for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match. The Griffins gave a team effort with three players scoring at least five kills and one reaching 30 digs, unfortunately, the Wildcats earned the 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-20) win.
Wilmington University (6-10, 3-4) took a commanding lead with scores of 25-14 in the first two games. Defensively, freshman libero Elisabeth DiGregorio (Conshohocken, PA ) helped slow the Wildcats with an impressive 30 digs, but junior outside hitter Meghan Frick (Fairfax, Va.) and sophomore setter Shannon Rumple (Fallston, Md.) carried the Wildcats to a 25-20 win in the final game. Frick killed nine balls and made 13 digs while Rumple provided four kills, 21 assists, and seven digs.
Chestnut Hill College (4-12, 0-6) w),as led offensively by sophomore middle hitter Madison McGee (Edgewater, MD ) who scored eight kills. Freshman middle hitter Cassie Benson (Rosamond, CA ) and senior Nicole Corrado (Telford, PA ) each added six kills. Sophomore setter Katherine Tohanczyn (Hatfield, Pa.) and freshman setter Courtney Gallo (Wilmington, DE ) fueled the hitters with 11 assists apiece. Tohanczyn also made three kills and two blocks; Gallo spotted two aces.
The women's volleyball team hosts Post University for their next CACC match. Starting at 5:00 p.m. match on Friday, October 3.
