Nyack, NY – (10/10/2009) – Trailing 2-0, Chestnut Hill College looked to rally in this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match at Nyack College. After the Warriors took two games 25-10, 25-20, the Griffins united to return the balance with wins in games three and four, 25-22, 25-23, respectively. The final game came to the stretch run with the Warriors breaking from a 9-9 tie to take the tie-breaker 15-11. Nyack College defeated the Griffins 3-2.

Nyack College (6-6, 5-5) charged out to a 2-0 lead with hitting percentages of .500 (13K-1E-24TA) and.290 (12K-3E-31TA) in the opening two games. Senior outside hitter Megan Metcalf (Miller Place, N.Y.) led the Warriors with 16 kills, benefitting from the play of senior middle blocker Brianne Cercone (Gary, Indiana). Cercone contributed on both sides of the net with 26 assists, 11 digs, and four blocks. Similarly, senior Samantha Friday (Pittsburgh, Pa.) provided eight kills, 10 assists, 13 digs, and four blocks. Senior outside hitter Jacki VerHage (Midland Park, N.J.) was a factor, scoring five of the Warriors 15 aces.

Freshman middle hitter Cassie Benson (Rosamond, CA ) led Chestnut Hill College (4-16, 0-10) in their comeback threat. Benson hit .345 (14K-4E-29TA) in the match and led the Griffins with 14 kills. She was a force on defense as well, totaling four blocks. Additionally, senior junior outside hitter Nicole Corrado (Telford, PA ) provided seven kills and sophomore Megan Nadler (West Deptford, NJ ) scored five attacks. Facilitating the offense, freshman setter Courtney Gallo (Wilmington, DE ) guided the Griffins with 23 assists and also contributed defensively with ten digs. Freshman libero Elisabeth DiGregorio (Conshohocken, PA ) led the defensive effort with 27 digs. Also playing a role, freshman setter Linda Zawadzki (Garfield, NJ ) hustled to 11 digs and freshman defensive specialist Bobbie Chukuntarod (San Francisco, CA ) made ten digs.

The women's volleyball team returns home to host Georgian Court University on Tuesday, October 13 in a 7:00 p.m. CACC match.
