Pine Creek, DE – (10/15/2009) – After dropping the opening two games 25-16, 25-14, Chestnut Hill College responded with a 31-29 win in the third game. However, Goldey-Beacom College escaped with a 25-13 victory in the fourth game to win the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match by a 3-1 (25-16, 25-14, 29-31, 25-13) final. Freshmen, libero Elisabeth DiGregorio (Conshohocken, PA ) and setter Courtney Gallo (Wilmington, DE ) combined to lead the Griffins against their conference foe.

Goldey-Beacom College (8-15, 3-10) opened the match with two strong games, hitting .289 (15K-4E-38TA) and .312 (13K-3E-32TA) in the first couple frames. Freshman setter Monica Dempsey (Secaucus, N.J.) and sophomore outside hitter Roni Shaner (Elkton, Md.) gave a renaissance performance to lead the Lightning. Dempsey hit .317 (15K-2E-41TA) with 15 kills, 24 assists and 24 digs. Shaner was equally as successful, hitting .393 (12K-1E-28TA) with 12 kills, 17 assists, three aces, and 14 digs. They helped the Lightning overcome the Griffins' threat in the third game.

Chestnut Hill College (4-18, 0-12) rallied behind the effort of DiGregorio and Gallo. DiGregorio collected 30 digs, reaching at least that amount for the fourth time this season. Gallo supplied 26 assists for the Griffin offense, reaching at least 20 assists for the second time in the last week. Freshman middle hitter Cassie Benson (Rosamond, CA ) benefitted from Gallo's sets, scoring 11 kills and she marked two aces. Freshman defensive specialist Bobbie Chukuntarod (San Francisco, CA ) also had a successful night on the serve with three aces, she also teamed with sophomore defensive specialist Alyssa Miller (East Stroudsburg, PA) to support DiGregorio with an additional 31 digs.

The women's volleyball team heads to Felician College on Saturday, October 17, for a 1:00 p.m. CACC match.
