Bloomsburg, PA – (12/10/2009) – Graduate forward Larz Jeter (Philadelphia, PA) gave Chestnut Hill College a 56-55 advantage with two minutes remaining after converting a clutch and-one opportunity. The Griffins traded buckets with Bloomsburg University, before freshman forward Ed Hall (Spencerville, Md.) earned the Huskies a 61-58 win in their rematch with the Griffins. Jeter had 18 points in the closing period and set a career-high in points with 24.
Chestnut Hill College (4-5) did not shoot well in either half (36.7% and 36.1%) but they overcame a 32-23 halftime deficit on grit and strong post play. Sophomore forward Dan Comas (Philadelphia, PA) and Jeter carried the Griffins in the second half. Comas had a second-half, double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Jeter was 6-of-13 (46.2%) from the field and a perfect 6-for-6 (100.0%) from the free throw line to lead the Griffins' second-half charge. Jeter's three-point-play gave the Griffins a 56-55 lead with two minutes left to play. Senior guard Reuben Britt (Voorhees, N.J.) and Jeter traded baskets before Hall's hustle handed the Huskies the 61-58 win. Hall converted a second chance effort and hit two closing free throws to even the season series between the teams.
Sophomore guard Trevon Johnson (Snow Hill, Md.) led Bloomsburg University (4-2) with 14 points. He made three first-half steals to help the Huskies out to a 32-23 lead by the break. Hall recorded nine points and 11 rebounds off the bench and Britt a solid contributor for the Huskies with 12 points, six rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
Jeter continued to have the Huskies number erupting for 24 points. He totaled 16 points and 11 rebounds in the teams' first meeting. Comas recorded his fourth career double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds. He was 9-of-17 (52.9%) from the floor. Freshman guard Francis Ashe (Greenbelt, MD) came off the bench to control the point for the Griffins, he totaled three assists.
The men's basketball team will resume their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule with a 3:00 p.m. home contest against Goldey-Beacom College.
