Philadelphia University Defeats Women’s Tennis In Non-Conference Encounter

Philadelphia, PA – (8/29/2009) – The Chestnut Hill College women's tennis team battled cross-town rival Philadelphia University in a non-conference match this afternoon. The Lady Rams controlled play, as the Griffins earned their only point by injury default at number five singles. Philadelphia University won 8-1. 

Chestnut Hill College (1-0) put forth their best effort in doubles play. Senior Erin Andersen (Canton, CT)(Canton, Conn.) and freshman Danielle Knott (Mt. Vernon, NY )(Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) lost 8-4 in the top doubles match, while junior Sarah Doherty (South Hampton, PA)(Southampton, Pa.) and freshman Regina Doherty (South Hampton, PA)(Southampton, Pa.) lost by an 8-5 score at number three doubles.

Senior Aiesha Grierson (Philadelphia, PA)(Philadelphia, Pa.) collected the Griffins' lone point by injury default at number five singles. Regina Doherty fought for each point in the number six singles match, but she lost 6-1, 6-4 to freshman Stephanie Miller (Fleetwood, Pa.).

The women's tennis team travels next to Molloy College for a 12:00 p.m. match on Monday, September 7.
