Lakewood, NJ - (10/8/10) – Chestnut Hill College continued their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule this evening with a match at Georgian Court University. The Lions opened up with a 25-16 win in the first set before sweeping the season series against the Griffins with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-22) win.
Sophomores, libero Elisabeth DiGregorio (Conshohocken, PA) and defensive specialist Bobbie Chukuntarod (San Francisco, CA) did all they could to slow the play of Georgian Court University (7-13, 7-3), but freshman setter Karol Oliveros (Newark, NJ) guided the Lions to victory. Oliveros tallied 31 assists and three aces; she found sophomore outside hitter Amy Berry (Bayville, NJ) for 15 kills and sophomore outside hitter Brandi Arsenault (Honolulu, HI) for another 11 kills. Both Berry and Arsenault made two blocks on defense. Freshman libero Nicole Sparks (Songtan, South Korea) made 13 digs and freshman outside hitter Cindy Aquino (Rahway, NJ) totaled ten digs.
DiGregorio hustled to 12 digs and Chukuntarod scrambled to another ten digs to anchor the defense for Chestnut Hill College (4-17, 1-9). Both also scored an ace to chip in offensively. Sophomore middle hitter Cassie Benson (Rosamond, CA) and sophomore right side Madelynn Ries (Antananarivo, Madagascar) each scored five kills, Benson hit .214 (5K-2E-14TA) in the match. Sophomore setter Courtney Gallo (Wilmington, DE) supplied 11 assists and freshman setter Allison Eberly (Orwigsburg, PA) helped out with four assists and an ace.
The women's volleyball team returns home to host Georgian Court University in a 7:00 p.m. CACC match on Thursday, October 14.
