Clippers Cut Griffins from CACC Postseason Play

Bronxville, NY – (10/19/2010) – Concordia College was first to five points in this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Opening Round Match, as the Clippers defeated Chestnut Hill College 5-0. The Clippers advance to face #2 Goldey-Beacom College in the CACC Championship Match at Chestnut Hill College on Saturday, October 23.

 

The CACC Opening Round match began with doubles play. Concordia College (10-0, 8-0) claimed their first point with an 8-0 victory at number three doubles. Number two doubles was next as sophomores Maria Parapouras (Victoria, Australia) and Danielle Knott (Mt. Vernon, NY) battled to an 8-5 defeat. Chestnut Hill College (8-6, 5-3) had their best doubles performance in the top flight with sophomore Nastia Shcherbakova (Minsk, Belarus) and freshman Kelly Dennis (Cincinnati, OH) contending in an 8-6 loss.

 

The Clippers ended the Griffins postseason appearance with individual victories at number five and number six singles. Junior Maria Ortiz (Bogtoa, Columbia) defeated sophomore Kristen Wasson (Albrightsville, PA) 6-0, 6-0 at number five singles and sophomore Ana S.O. Mendes (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) topped sophomore Regina Doherty (Southampton, PA) 6-2, 6-1 at number six singles. All of the remaining singles matches were left unfinished with the Clippers clinching victory. Knott was fairing best for the Griffins with a 6-1, 2-1 lead over senior Adeline Brennan (Toms River, NJ) at number four singles.

 

The women's tennis team will resume their 2010-2011 schedule with an early March trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina for the Hilton Head Invitational.
