Men’s Basketball Bests Bloomsburg University To Claim First Victory of Season

Bloomsburg, PA – (11/20/2010) – The physical post play of junior center Dan Comas (Philadelphia, PA) and a dominant team defense powered Chestnut Hill College to a 40-22 halftime advantage over Bloomsburg University this evening. In the second half the Griffins could not miss, sinking 62.5% (10-of-16) from the floor to collect their first win of the season with an 88-73 defeat of the Huskies.

 

Comas was nearly flawless, he was 4-of-5 (80.0%) from the field and 2-of-3 (66.7%) from the free throw line to lead the Griffins at halftime with 12 points. The Griffin defense took care of the rest as Chestnut Hill College (1-2) mounted a 40-22 advantage by the break; they forced nine Husky turnovers and held the home team to a 25.9% (7-of-27) first-half shooting percentage. Bloomsburg University (1-2) forced 12 turnovers and outscored the Griffins 51-48 in the second half, but efficient shooting and a persistent attack carried the Griffins to a 15-point triumph.

 

Sophomore guard Dontahe Jordan (Williamsport, PA) and junior center Larry Webster III (Elkton, MD) led the Huskies. Jordan totaled 20 points, a block, and three steals while Webster contributed 18 points, nine rebounds, and three steals. Junior guard Trevon Johnson (Snow Hill, MD) ran the point for the Huskies, he provided six assists and 13 points.

 

Comas finished the affair with 23 points, seven rebounds, a block, and a steal; he was 8-of-9 (88.9%) from the floor and 7-of-9 (77.8%) at the charity stripe. Junior guard Uros Kovacevic (Kotor, Montenegro) camew off the bench to help Comas drive the Griffins in the first half. He totaled nine points, three rebounds, and four assists in just 18 minutes of play while three other Griffins reached double figures. Senior guard Brandon Williams (Philadelphia, PA) scored 19 points, sophomore guard Mark DiRugeris Jr. (Woodbury, NJ) finished with 17 points, and senior forward Trenton Davidheiser (Pottstown, PA) added 14 points. Williams also dished out six assists and made two steals while Davidheiser completed his double-double with ten rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

 

The men's basketball team returns to Sorgenti Arena on Saturday, November 27, for their home opener. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
