Philadelphia, PA - (11/4/10) – Chestnut Hill College saved their best for last, claiming a 3-1 (25-10, 25-21, 19-25, 25-20) victory over Felician College in this evening's home finale. With a .189 (46K-18E-148TA) team hitting percentage the Griffins won their second Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match of the season; an all-time program high.
Chestnut Hill College (5-24, 2-16) quickly dispensed Felician College (5-23, 4-14) in the opening set, mounting a 25-10 win on a .241 (10K-3E-29TA) team hitting percentage, two aces, and four team blocks. Sophomore middle blocker Cassie Benson (Rosamond, CA) and sophomore right side Madelynn Ries (Antananarivo, Madagascar) got started early scoring three kills apiece in the frame, Benson also made three blocks. The spirit in Sorgenti Arena cresendoed with another Griffin win in the second set, 25-21, but the Golden Falcons won the third set, 25-19, delaying the celebration. The fourth set was tight early, knotting at 9-9 before Ries and Benson powered the Griffins home, 25-20.
Senior outside hitter Amber Doran (Little Ferry, NJ) and senior setter Nicole Degenhardt (Secaucus, NJ) led the Golden Falcon offense. Doran striking 12 kills and Degenhardt supplying 28 assists. Junior outside hitter Massiel Sanabria (Passaic, NJ) made ten digs.
Benson killed a season-high 17 balls, while Ries continued her recent strong play with a 12-kill performance. On the set, sophomore Courtney Gallo (Wilmington, DE) and freshman Allison Eberly (Orwigsburg, PA) persistently feed their frontline, combining for 38 assists. Benson also contributed on the defensive end, making six blocks. Sophomore libero Elisabeth DiGregorio (Conshohocken, PA) and freshman defensive specialist Alex DePalma (Shillington, PA) also shined defensively with 19 digs and 16 digs, respectively.
The women's volleyball team completes their season with a 1:00 p.m. CACC match at Caldwell College on Saturday, November 6.
