Philadelphia, PA – (8/29/2010) – A new chapter begins for the cross country programs as new Head Coach Bill Kampf takes command of the Chestnut Hill College runners. Junior Owen Ward (Croydon, PA) and senior Brittany Murtha (Magnolia, N.J.) assume captain duties for their respective teams; each is expected to lead the Griffins on their journey to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Meet.

Ward and Murtha have been pillars for the Chestnut Hill College cross country programs. Ward was a CACC All-Conference selection as a freshman and he led the Griffins in all but one race as a sophomore, while Murtha is a two-year captain for a growing women's team. Both sides are still looking to add numbers before competition begins with Wilmington University Invitational Sunday, September 12.

As currently constructed, the men's team returns Ward and senior Tassilo Von Gleichen (Wayne, PA) while welcoming first-time competitor, freshman Anthony Dormann (Allentown, PA). Von Gleichen was the Griffins' third best men's finisher at the 2009 CACC Championship Meet (44th, 32:35.82) while Ward paced the Griffins with a 21st place finish (29:44.45). The women's team welcomes sophomore Courtney Waldron (Farmingham, MA) and freshman Miranda Ward (Croydon, PA) to the roster. They join Murtha, who placed 43rd (24:19.02) at the last year's conference championships.

In his first year, Coach Kampf is looking to establish a foundation for the future of the Chestnut Hill College cross country programs. He will rely on Ward and Murtha, as captains, to help foster team spirit, growth, and success as the Griffins race toward the 2010 CACC Championship Meet.
