Philadelphia, PA – (9/10/2010) – Chestnut Hill College took advantage of a short-handed Molloy College squad, sweeping this afternoon's women's tennis match 9-0. The Griffins won the top two doubles flights and claimed the last by default, 3-0, before completing the sweep with wins in the top three singles flights and default victories in the bottom three singles flights.
Sophomore Nastia Shcherbakova (Minsk, Belarus) and freshman Kelly Dennis (Cincinnati, OH) got Chestnut Hill College (1-1) out to a strong start with a quick 8-1 victory at number one doubles. Sophomores Maria Parapouras (Victoria, Australia) and Danielle Knott (Mt. Vernon, NY) followed with an equally impressive 8-4 win at number two doubles. The Griffins took the third team flight by default.
In singles action the Griffins continued to control the match with Shcherbakova leading off number one singles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Dennis came away with a 6-2, 6-0 win at number two singles and in the third singles flight, Knott was victorious by the same final, 6-2, 6-1. The three remaining singles flights were claimed by the Griffins in default fashion.
The women's tennis team will next join the men's team for an afternoon of tennis against Adelphi University at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 11.
