Caldwell, NJ – (9/14/2010) – Chestnut Hill College shutout Caldwell College 9-0 this afternoon to even their conference and season records. The Griffins earned their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory of the season with the defeat of the Cougars. Sophomore Nastia Shcherbakova (Minsk, Belarus) highlighted the sweep, teaming with freshman Kelly Dennis (Cincinnati, OH) for an 8-0 win at number one doubles and winning number one singles 6-0, 6-0.
Shcherbakova and Denis started the Griffins out with an 8-0 win at number two doubles. Sophomores Danielle Knott (Mt. Vernon, NY) and Maria Parapouras (Victoria, Australia) followed at number two doubles for Chestnut Hill College (2-2, 1-1), they scored an 8-2 victory. At number three doubles, sophomores Regina Doherty (Southampton, PA) and Kristen Wasson (Albrightsville, PA) completed the run with an 8-3 final.
The Griffins success followed in individual play. Shcherbakova took number one singles 6-0, 6-0 and Dennis won number two singles 6-0, 6-1. At number three singles Parapouras earned a 6-1, 6-1 win. Knott was victorious, 8-4, at number four singles while Wasson was a 9-7 winner at number five singles. At number six singles, Doherty scored an 8-5 win to finish the shutout.
The women's tennis team returns home to host Stonehill College in a 3:00 p.m. match on Friday, September 17.
