Women’s Tennis Scores Second CACC Win In Duel with Devils

Philadelphia, PA – (9/22/2010) – The Chestnut Hill College women's tennis team collected their second Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory this afternoon, with a 7-2 win over the University of the Sciences. The Griffins took two of three, doubles matches before and five of six singles flights to even their record at 3-3.

 

Chestnut Hill College (3-3, 2-1) took the initial command of the match with doubles wins in the top two flights. Sophomore Nastia Shcherbakova (Minsk, Belarus) and freshman Kelly Dennis (Cincinnati, OH) teamed for an 8-5 win to improve to 6-0 on the season. Sophomores Danielle Knott (Mt. Vernon, NY) and Maria Parapouras (Victoria, Australia) won number two doubles, 8-2. The University of the Sciences (1-3, 1-3) won the final doubles match to keep the pressure on the Griffins heading to individual play.

 

Shcherbakova headlined the Griffin singles lineup; she defeated the Devils top player, sophomore Sara Durham (Bridgeton, NJ) 6-3, 6-0. Dennis won number two singles 6-2, 6-0 while Parapouras scored a 6-0, 6-1 win in the third singles flight. Knott won the Griffins a point at number four singles with a 6-0, 6-2 final. Lawrence did the same at number six singles, rallying for a 4-6, 6-4, 10-5 triumph.

 

The women's tennis team continues their CACC schedule when they host Post University on Family Weekend. The match is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. opening serve on Saturday, September 25.
