Philadelphia, PA - (9/28/10) – Chestnut Hill College hosted the University of the Sciences in this evening's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's volleyball match. The Devils won the first game by a convincing 25-15 score, before winning the match 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-18). Sophomore middle hitter Madelynn Ries (Madagascar) led the offense with six kills while sophomore libero Elisabeth DiGregorio (Conshohocken, PA) spirited the defense with 20 digs.
Chestnut Hill College (3-12, 1-4) and the University of the Sciences (5-4, 3-3) battled to a 10-10 tie, but it was the Devils who won the first game 25-15 as the Griffins slowly unraveled. Refocused, the Griffins kept game two close in the early going, but again the Devils rallied to win the game 25-20. The Devils used the momentum to grab a 9-1 advantage early in game three. The Griffins would make a late push, but it would not be enough to catch the Devils who won the game 25-18 to complete the 3-0 match victory.
Freshman setter Diana Solomon (East Islip, NY) directed the Devils offense with seven kills and 12 assists. Senior setter Sarah Hickman (Newark, DE) also provided 12 assists; she scored two aces as well. Defensively, sophomore libero Stacy Wooden (Levittown, PA) made 13 digs and senior middle blocker Cady Rich (Shelton, CT) made six blocks.
The Griffins were led offensively by Reis and sophomore setter Courtney Gallo (Wilmington, DE). Reis totaled a team-high six kills while Gallo supplied ten assists. DiGregorio captained the Griffin defensive effort with 20 digs; she was supported by sophomore defensive specialist Bobbie Chukuntarod (San Francisco, CA) who made 14 digs in the loss.
