Philadelphia, PA – (9/29/2010) – Chestnut Hill College held a 2-1 advantage after doubles play and with individual victories in five of six singles flights the Griffins claimed their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win over Philadelphia University, 7-2. The Griffins were successful in the top matches, with sophomore Nastia Shcherbakova (Minsk, Belarus), freshman Kelly Dennis (Cincinnati, OH), sophomore Danielle Knott (Mt. Vernon, NY) and sophomore Maria Parapouras (Victoria, Australia) recording both singles and doubles wins.
Shcherbakova and Dennis scored an 8-3 win at number one doubles and Parapouras teamed with Knott for an 8-0 win at number two doubles to set the tone for Chestnut Hill College (5-4, 4-2). Philadelphia University (3-4, 2-2) managed a point at number three doubles, 8-5, behind the play of freshmen Elizabeth Verbits (Salisbury, MD) and Kaitlin MacQueen (West Deptford, NJ).
Five Griffins scored individual victories. Shcherbakova led-off the lineup with a 6-2, 6-4 win in the top singles flight. Dennis rallied to win number two singles 0-6, 6-3, 6-1. Parapouras remained unbeaten in singles play with a 6-4, 6-0 win at number three singles and Knott claimed number four singles 6-3, 6-2. Verbits scored the other Lady Ram point with a 6-2, 6-2 win over sophomore Kristen Wasson (Albrightsville, PA) at number five singles and sophomore Regina Doherty (Southampton, PA) won number six singles 6-3, 6-4.
The women's tennis team breaks from their conference schedule when they host West Chester University in a 12:00 p.m. match at on Saturday, October 2.
