Philadelphia, PA – (9/8/2010) – Chestnut Hill College opened their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-14) loss to Holy Family University this evening. Sophomore middle hitter Cassie Benson (Rosamond, CA) led the Griffins with five kills.
Holy Family University (2-1, 1-0) took the early lead with a 25-13 win in the opening game. Chestnut Hill College (1-1, 0-1) approached game two with a renewed spirit and trailed by only one midway through, 11-10. Unfortunately, the Tigers went on a 14-5 run to claim their second game of the night, 25-15. The Griffins fell behind quickly in game three, 15-4, but a late charge brought the score to 22-14 before the Tigers closed the match on a 25-14 win.
The Tigers were led by senior setter Aimee Drabyn (Avon, IN), junior outside hitter Jillian Keeve (LaGrange, IN), and sophomore outside hitter Cara Przybylowicz (Ridley Park, PA). Drabyn provided 18 assists, helping Keeve to a team-high nine kills. Przybylowicz recorded nine digs and two blocks.
Benson scored five kills to lead the Griffin attack. Sophomore Madelynn Ries (Antananarivo, Madagascar) and freshman Alex DePalma (Shillington, PA) pitched with three kills apiece while sophomore setter Courtney Gallo (Wilmington, DE) provided ten assists. Defensively, sophomore libero Elisabeth DiGregorio (Conshohocken, PA) hustled to 12 digs and Ries made two blocks.
The women's volleyball team will compete next at the West Chester University Tournament on Friday, September 10. The Griffins will open the event with a 3:00 p.m. match against the hosting Golden Rams.
