11/1/2011 10:40:00 PM

Box Score Lakewood, NJ – (11/1/2011) – The Chestnut Hill College women's soccer season ended on a sour note this afternoon, with a 5-1 loss in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Opening Round contest at Georgian Court University. Forced to play without their top scorer, the Griffins eventually fell victim to a potent Lion offense led by senior forward Kelly Lyons (Jackson, NJ), who recorded the affair's first, three goals.

#4 Georgian Court University (11-8) held only a 1-0 halftime advantage over #5 Chestnut Hill College (9-10) thanks to an individual effort from Lyons and not a controlling 11-1 shot advantage and five corner kick opportunities. Lyons stole the ball off the Griffins goalkeeper before recording the contest's opening goal at 29:21. She added two more score at the early part of the second half to extend the Lions lead to 3-0. The Griffins interrupted the Lion offense with an unassisted strike from sophomore forward Kaelyn Pizarro (Berlin, NJ) at 71:07, but two more Lion insurance tallies placed the Griffins behind a 5-1 deficit and ensured the home team a return to the CACC Semifinals.

In addition to Pizarro's goal, sophomore midfielder Carly DiGiovanni (Seaville, NJ) led the Griffins with three shots and junior goalkeeper Jessica Veazey (Middletown, DE) made seven saves in the loss (9-8). For the Lions, Lyons' hat trick performance was complimented by three saves and a win for senior goalkeeper Shealyn Sullivan (Buffalo, NY).

The women's soccer team finished the 2011 season at 9-10 overall.
