New Haven, CT – (2/26/2011) – Chestnut Hill College earned their third consecutive trip to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Tournament with an 8-9 league standing and a third place finish in the South Division. As a result, the Griffins will travel to #2 Philadelphia University on Tuesday, March 2, for a third chance to overcome the Rams in CACC Quarterfinal competition. Goldey-Beacom College holds the top spot for the South Division with a 12-5 CACC record, while Bloomfield College completed the regular season with North Division crown and the league's best record at 15-3.
Chestnut Hill College (11-15, 8-9) challenged Philadelphia University (15-11, 10-7) in the last two opening rounds of the CACC Championship Tournament, but came away empty handed. This season the Griffins have reason for optimism, after collecting the program's first triumph over the cross-city rivals, 74-61, on January 19. Sophomore guard Jakeem Bogans (Philadelphia, PA) spirited the Griffins with, a career-high, 16 points off the bench while junior center Dan Comas (Philadelphia, PA) complimented the perimeter play with 18 points and eight rebounds. #1 Goldey-Beacom College and #4 USciences matchup in the other South Division playoff tilt. In the North Division, #1 Bloomfield College hosts #4 Felician College in the first, opening round game. #2 Post University and #3 Dominican College pair up in the other.
