Women’s Tennis Continues Strong Start, Tops Lady Rams

Philadelphia, PA – (9/12/2011) – Chestnut Hill College continued their early season momentum this afternoon to claim an 8-1 win over cross-town, Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rival, Philadelphia University. The Griffins swept doubles play thanks to a hard fought victory at number three doubles, the Lady Rams earned their only point at number six singles.
 
The Chestnut Hill College (5-0, 1-0) doubles lineup was solid as usual. At the top, junior Nastia Shcherbakova (Minsk, Belarus) and sophomore Kelly Dennis (Cincinnati, OH) combined for an 8-1 win over sophomore Sayre Limburg (New London, NJ) and senior Steph Reinke (St. James, NY). Junior Maria Parapouras (Victoria, Australia) and freshman Morgan Oechsle (Coopersburg, PA) did the same at number two doubles, also scoring an 8-1 victory, while junior Danielle Knott (Mt. Vernon, NY) and freshman Alexis Puhl (Philadelphia, PA) battled to 9-8 (7-1) victory at number three doubles.
 
Singles play went smoothly as well, with the only speed bump coming at number six singles. Shcherbakova took number one singles 6-0, 6-0 to set the tone. Dennis won number two singles 6-3, 6-1, Oechsle won by the same margin at number four singles. Parapouras came away with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at number two singles. Philadelphia University (1-3, 0-2) earned their only point of the match at number six singles, as sophomore Elizabeth Verbits (Salisbury, MD) defeated Puhl 5-7, 6-2, 10-3.
 
The women's tennis team continues their CACC schedule tomorrow, Tuesday, September 13, with a 3:30 p.m. match at Georgian Court University.
