Griffins Open Season At Philadelphia University Golf Classic

Lafayette Hill, PA – (9/12/2011) – The Chestnut Hill College golf team took to the links for the first time this season with an afternoon match against Philadelphia University and the University of the Sciences. The Rams hosted the meeting of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) members at the Ace Club, and won on their home course with a team score of 345 (+57). The Devils finished second with 351 strokes and the Griffins scored a 402.
 
Freshman Blaise Straka and senior Nick Mull (Collingswood, NJ) both finished among the top seven finishers at the Philadelphia University Golf Classic. Straka placed 6th with 88 strokes, Mull was a shot behind at 89 (7th). A trio of Chestnut Hill College (0-2) seniors also competed this afternoon; Mitch Doherty Jr. (Lowell, MA) came in 12th with a 105, Kyle Thornley (East Windsor, NJ) scored a 120 and came in 14th, while Joe Reid (Kingsville, MD) shot a 126 and placed 15th.
 
Philadelphia University (2-0) junior Brad Krohl (Clifton Park, NY) was the low man with a round of 80 (+8). Freshman Ian Byerly (Gap, PA) was the University of the Sciences (1-1) best shooter, he scored an 83.
 
The golf team will play next in the first ever Chestnut Hill College Fall Classic, which is scheduled to be played at Westover Country Club on Wednesday, September 14. The event is scheduled for a 10:00 a.m. start and will feature many local and CACC rivals; Arcadia University, Rosemont College, Penn State – Abington, University of the Sciences, Goldey-Beacom College, Dominican College, and Elizabethtown College.
