Reading, PA – (9/17/2011) – Chestnut Hill College engaged Albright College in a highly competitive affair this afternoon, as the Lions narrowly defeated the Griffins 3-2 (24-26, 25-18, 17-25, 27-25, 17-15). The Griffins held the advantage after three sets, but the Lions protected their home court by taking the fourth set 27-25 to even the score, before claiming victory with a 17-15 win in the deciding set.
The was little room for error as Chestnut Hill College (5-7) and Albright College (3-8) battled neck-and-neck for five sets of fierce competition. The Griffins opened with the advantage after taking the first set 26-24. The Lions responded with a 25-18 win in set to, pulling even at 1-1. The match swung back in the Griffins favor with a 25-17 win in the third set, but just as quickly, the Lions replied with a 27-25 win in the fourth set. In the deciding set, the theme continued with play coming down to the wire. In the end, the Lions escaped the Griffins grasp with a tight 17-15 finish.
The Lions were led by sophomore outside hitter Christa Mantz (Coaldale, PA) and freshman outside hitter Kyrsten Stanford (Reading, PA). Mantz totaled 16 kills and 20 digs while Stanford contributed 14 kills on a .323 (14K-4E-31TA) hitting percentage. The were directed by sophomore setter Morgan Heath (West Chester, PA), who supplied 39 assists in addition to three aces, 11 digs, and three blocks.

Katie Schock (Allentown, PA) was the top performer for the Griffins with 14 kills on a .393 (14K-3E-28TA) hitting percentage. She also scored two aces and made five blocks. Sophomore outside hitter
Alex DePalma (Shillington, PA) helped with 11 kills, 16 digs, and three blocks, while freshman
Sidney Chukuntarod (San Francisco, CA) and sophomore
Ali Eberly (Orwigsburg, PA) split duties at setter. Chukuntarod totaled 15 assists, an ace, and six digs, and Eberly provided 13 assists, two aces, and two digs. Junior libero
Liz DiGregorio (Conshohocken, PA) pitched defensively with a match-high, 21 digs.
The women's volleyball team returns home to resume their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule with a 7:00 p.m. match against Wilmington University on Tuesday, September 20.
