Philadelphia, PA – (9/27/2011) – Chestnut Hill College remained undefeated this evening, after escaping Holy Family University with a 5-4 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory. The Tigers claimed wins in the top flights, but thanks to their talented depth the Griffins came away with the win.
Chestnut Hill College (7-0, 4-0) grabbed the early advantage over Holy Family University (5-3, 2-1) with a 2-1 lead coming out of doubles play. Junior
Maria Parapouras (Victoria, Australia) and freshman
Morgan Oechsle (Coopersburg, PA) won 8-1 at number two doubles, while junior
Danielle Knott (Mt. Vernon, NY) and freshman
Alexis Puhl (Philadelphia, PA) teamed for an 8-6 win at number three doubles, to outweigh an 8-6 loss at number one doubles.
The Tigers threatened to sway the momentum with wins in the top two singles flights; number one singles, 7-5, 6-4, and number two singles, 6-4, 5-7, 10-7. Fortunately, Parapouras, Oechsle, Knott, and Puhl all claimed individual victories to carry the Griffins to a narrow 5-4 triumph.
The women's tennis team travels to Concordia College (NY) for their next CACC match; a 3:30 p.m. opening serve on Wednesday, September 28.
