Alex DePalma (Shillington, PA) got Chestnut Hill College off to a good start with four kills in the opening set, however, Holy Family University rallied for a 3-1 (22-25, 25-14, 27-25, 25-19) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win over the Griffins this evening. DePalma was supported by senior right side
Katherine Tohanczyn (Hatfield, PA), who led the Griffins in kills with 11.
Chestnut Hill College (7-10, 2-5) won the first set 25-22 behind the play of DePalma and freshman setter
Sidney Chukuntarod (San Francisco, CA), but Holy Family University (10-9, 7-0) shook off the initial set-back and won the match with three consecutive set wins; 25-14, 27-25, 25-19. The Tigers clawed back into the affair behind senior outside hitter Jillian Keeve (La Grange, IL) and sophomore middle blocker Sarah Ambach (Springboro, OH). Keeve recorded a match-high, 14 kills while also recording 13 digs. Ambach scored 13 kills made four blocks. Additional contributions came from freshman outside hitter Devyn Ingram (King of Prussia, PA) and sophomore setter Chelsea Keegan (Bucyrus, OH). Ingram with ten kills and Keegan with 38 assists and nine digs.
Tohancyzn killed six balls in a critical third set, but it was not enough to push the Griffins past the Tigers. DePalma and sophomore middle blocker
Mary Markowski (Parkton, MD) each totaled ten kills; DePalma also hustled to 11 digs. Chukuntarod added 29 assists and three blocks, while junior libero
Liz DiGregorio (Conshohocken, PA) made 26 digs.
The women's volleyball team visits Bloomfield College on Saturday, October 1, for a 10:00 a.m. CACC match against, the hosting, Deacons and a 12:00 p.m. non-conference match against Le Moyne College.
