Rams Stay Out of Griffins Range in Gritty CACC Gala

Box Score Philadelphia, PA – (1/16/2012) – In a game of no holds barred, Chestnut Hill College fell on the short end of a 56-42 final with Philadelphia University who used a late push to close out this meeting of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rivals on a 56-42 final. Freshman forward Alssene Saintilus (Irvington, NJ) recorded his first collegiate double-double with 15 points and ten rebounds in an ugly affair, led by the Rams 35.6% (21-of-59) field goal percentage, 26.7% (4-of-15) three-point percentage, and the Griffins 61.1% (11-of-18) free throw percentage.
 
Senior forward Dan Comas (Philadelphia, PA) ignited the crowd in Sorgenti Arena with a dramatic dunk off the feed junior guard Mark DiRugeris Jr. (Woodbury, NJ), who hit a three-point shot to give Chestnut Hill College (12-7, 5-2) their first lead of the contest, 34-33, with 12:23 remaining in the second half. Stingy defenses slowed affair, but some late outside shooting heroics from Philadelphia University (10-4, 6-0) junior guard Jim Connolly (Harleysville, PA) helped the Rams recover for a 14-point win.
 
Connolly finished with 16 points and five rebounds to lead the Rams. Senior forward Corey Francisco (Woodbridge, NJ) was a key contributor with 11 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Freshman guard Nick Schlitzer (Pottsville, PA) offered ten points and six rebounds, while helping senior center Temi Adebayo (Ibadan, Nigeria) on defense with two blocks and a steal. Adebayo totaled nine points, ten rebounds, and two blocks.
 
Saintilus was 6-of-9 (66.7%) from the field, 1-of-2 (50.0%) from three-point range, and 2-of-4 (50.0%) as they leading performer for the Griffins. He also recorded two blocks and one steal to assist Comas in the Griffins defensive effort. Comas blocked four shots and made one steal in addition to six points and eight rebounds. DiRugeris finished with six points and three assists while sophomore guard Jakeem Bogans (Philadelphia, PA) provided five points, five rebounds, five assists, and two steals from the point position.
 
The men's basketball team awaits a 3:00 p.m. CACC contest with Dominican College on Saturday, January 21.
