Women’s Soccer Gets Back On Track With 2-1 Win Over Eagles

Box Score Lafayette Hill, Pa. – (10/13/2012) – Chestnut Hill College was the aggressor early against Post University, posting a 2-0 halftime lead before enduring the Eagles to a 2-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory. Junior midfielder Carly DiGiovanni (Seaville, N.J.) got the Griffins started, scoring on a through-ball from sophomore midfielder Katherine Williams (Pennsauken, N.J.) in the 16th minute. The Griffins critical insurance goal came in the 37th minute with junior midfielder Marykate McShane (Lebanon, Pa.) rebounding a header from junior forward Kaelyn Pizarro (Berlin, N.J.).
 
Chestnut Hill College (6-8, 6-3) began to pressure the Post University (4-9, 3-7) around the eight-minute mark and after a series of attacks on the Eagle goal an perfect pass from Williams gave DiGiovanni a one-on-one opportunity with the goalkeeper. She scored her 12th goal of the season to give the Griffins a 1-0 at 15:42. Play evened out after the tally, but the Griffins came knocking again a game approached the 36-minute mark. An Eagle foul gave the Griffins an opening. The restart met Pizarro's head, which was met by McShane's foot after connecting with the crossbar, 2-0 (36:04). That spread lasted through halftime and little while after when the Eagles made things interesting with a score at 48:24. Only a few minutes into the closing frame, senior forward Sabrina Sinopoli (Watertown, Conn) crossed the ball to sophomore defender Eryka Baez (Clifton, N.J.) for the Eagle tally, 2-1. Determined to keep their one-goal advantage, the Griffins managed to hold off the Eagles remaining attacks for the enduring victory.
 
Junior forward Renel Dennis (Queens, N.Y.) topped the Eagle effort with four shots, two others totaled three. In goal, junior Grace McConnell (Leeds, England) recorded five saves in the loss.
 
Senior goalkeeper Jessica Veazey (Middletown, Del.) earned her fifth win on the season (5-7) with four saves. Four Griffins recorded at least three shots; DiGiovanni and McShane found goal.
 
The women's soccer team looks for their next CACC win against Wilmington University, who they host in a 4:00 p.m. contest on Wednesday, October 17.
