Devils Vex Women’s Volleyball For CACC Win

Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. – (10/17/2012) – The women's volleyball team traveled across the city this evening to visit the University of the Sciences (USciences) for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match. The Devils drummed out a 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 26-24) victory over the Griffins with middle hitter Caitlyn Crawford (Covington, Ohio) leading all participants on 14 kills, seven digs, and a block. Freshmen, middle hitter Rachel Biro (Nazareth, Pa.) and outside hitter Abby Gruver (Coplay, Pa.) continued to lead the Griffins effort.
 
USciences (12-12, 6-7) came out strong on their home court taking the first set 25-15 on a .297 (13K-2E-37TA) team hitting percentage. Crawford hit .481 (14K-1E-27TA) to pace the effort over final two sets as the Devils endured Chestnut Hill College (7-16, 3-9) 25-19 in the second set, before narrowly escaping with the third set, 26-24. Crawford totaled 14 kills, two aces, seven digs, and block to total 16.5 points in the match. Sophomore outside hitter Amanda DeAngelo (Vestal, N.Y.) helped headline the Devils attack with ten kills and ten digs. Sophomore setter Kaileen Bevenour (Sicklerville, N.J.) provided 33 assists and she was also one of four Devils with double-digit digs. Senior libero Stacey Wooden (Levittown, Pa.) anchored the Devil defense with 17 digs.
 
Gruver and Biro led the Griffins on both sides of the net, each totaling nine kills while contributing to the defensive effort. Gruver recorded 14 digs and Biro supplied two blocks. Senior setter Courtney Gallo (Wilmington, Del.) distributed 18 assists while freshman defensive specialist Dianna Bianchini (Blue Bell, Pa.) hustled to 15 digs.  
 
The women's volleyball team returns home for their next CACC match, a 5:00 p.m. contest against Wilmington University is scheduled for Friday, October 19.
