DiGiovanni Delivers CACC Win In Challenge With Lady Chargers

Box Score Orangeburg, N.Y. – (10/21/2012) – Junior midfielder Carly DiGiovanni (Seaville, N.J.) scored the only goal needed for Chestnut Hill College to defeat Dominican College in this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest as the Griffins earned a 1-o triumph to keep pace with the league's playoff competitors.
 
Chestnut Hill College (7-9, 7-4) pushed Dominican College (5-7-1, 4-5-1) around the pitch in the opening, but they were not able to get o the scoreboard until the 58th minute. From with yards out, DiGiovanni finished a pass from senior defender Shannon Catts (Elmer, N.J.) at 57:12 to deliver the Griffins a 1-0 advantage. A concerned Lady Charger squad looked to tie the affair with eight second-half shots. Veazey stopped six of them and two others went high to preserve her third shutout of the season.
 
Juniors, forward Olivia Antonopoulos (Baldwin, N.Y.) and midfielder Danielle Klecha (Jamesburg, N.J.), led the Lady Charger offense with four shots apiece. In goal, junior Veronica Iozzi (Chester, N.J.) made three saves in the loss.
 
Sophomore midfielder Katherine Williams (Pennsauken, N.J.) led the host of Griffins that kept Iozzi busy with three shots, but it was DiGiovanni who found success for league-leading 13th time. It was her second game-winning-goal of the season. Senior goalkeeper Jessica Veazey (Middletown, Del.) gave another stellar effort to keep the Lady Chargers at bay with eight saves in her sixth win of the season (6-8).
 
The women's soccer team will close their CACC schedule with the first of two remaining home contests coming on Tuesday, October 23, when the Griffins welcome Holy Family University to campus for a 4:00 p.m. kickoff.
