Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. – (10/20/2012) – Chestnut Hill College made a strong opening statement in today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match with Felician College, as they paced the Golden Falcons to a 25-9 in the first set. The second and third sets were played tighter, but both went to the Griffins 25-23 and 25-17. Freshman middle hitter
Rachel Biro (Nazareth, Pa.) was the Griffins top striker as she led all participants with 13 points on ten kills, and four blocks.
The first set began competitively with Chestnut Hill College (8-17, 4-10) tying Felician College (1-19, 1-13) at 4-4 before controlling the serve for a 25-9 victory. The Griffins scored seven aces in the set; three came from freshman defensive specialist
Meghan Chiovitti (Brighton, Colo.), two from senior setter
Courtney Gallo (Wilmington, Del.), and one apiece from junior defensive specialist
Sarah Mattaliano (Coral Springs, Fla.) and junior setter
Allison Eberly (Orwigsburg, Pa.). The Griffins trailed the Golden Falcons through the second set and eventually tied the frame at 21-21 before Biro killed three of the final four Griffins points for a 25-23 win. The Griffins led the whole way in the third set, using the attack of Biro and freshman outside hitter
Abby Gruver (Coplay, Pa.) to put the Golden Falcons away on a 25-17 final.
Freshman outside hitter Olivia Emerson (Sparks, Nev.) killed eight balls and made four digs to headline the Golden Falcon offense. Freshman setter Susan McKeever (Fort Myers, Fla.) supplied 19 assist, while the defensive effort was anchored by 11 digs from freshman defensive specialist Sarah Shebel (Chandler, Ariz.).
Biro's play was complimented by Gruver who totaled eight kills and six digs. The Griffin offense was directed by Gallo and freshman setter
Alyssa Tamsing (Ventura, Calif.) who totaled 14 assists and 13 assists, respectively, while the defense was captained by freshman libero
Dianna Bianchini (Blue Bell, Pa.) who recorded 13 digs.
The women's volleyball team plays next at Georgian Court University on Tuesday, October 23. The opening serve of the CACC match is schedule for 7:00 p.m.
