Box Score Lafayette Hill, Pa. – (10/25/2012) – With the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) season behind them, Chestnut Hill College hosted Shippensburg University comfortably in their final contest of the regular play. Following a misty Senior Day ceremony, the intensity gradually increased until it resulted in three second-half Griffin goals; the first two off the boot of junior midfielder Carly DiGiovanni (Seaville N.J) and the last on a “Hail-Mary” connection between senior goalkeeper Jessica Veazey (Middletown, Del.) and junior forward Kaelyn Pizarro (Berlin N.J.), 3-0.

The scoring drought came to an end in the 59th minute (58:18), when DiGiovanni met a pass from freshman midfielder Danielle Spinuzza (Williamstown, N.J.) at the left post, 1-0. Eight minutes later (66:15) DiGiovanni scored again, this time off a chip pass from Pizarro, 2-0. Chestnut Hill College (8-10) settled into their lead and continued to pressure the Raiders defenses, increasing a 10-9 shot advantage to 26-18 by game's end. In the final minute of play, a soaring clear from Veazey put the finishing touch on a superb collegiate career as it found the feet of a darting Pizarro, who put it past the Raider goalkeeper for the third Griffin goal, 3-0.

The Raiders attack was headed by a trio of junior forward Ashley Vellucci (Millersville, Pa.), junior midfielder Rachel Hess (Lancaster, Pa.), and senior midfielder Rhonda Runion (Winchester, Va.). Vellucci led the Raiders 18-shot effort with seven strikes. In goal, junior goalkeeper Shelbie Rackley (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) earned the loss while recording eight saves.

The Griffins used Pizarro early and often to test the Raider defense. As a result, DiGiovanni broke the line. Pizarro recorded a team-high five shots, while DiGiovanni and senior midfielder Alexandria Allizzo (Laurel Springs, N.J.) each offered three. Veazey enjoyed her sixth double-digit save performance of the season with 14 stops in the affair.

In annual Senior Day tradition, prior to the start of this afternoon's contest the Chestnut Hill College Department of Athletics paid respect to the graduating class. This year's honors bestowed on defenders Shannon Catts (Elmer N.J.), Joan Quinn (Hamilton, N.J.), midfielders Alyssa Radetich (Sewell N.J.), Allizzo and Veazey. Veazey finishes her collegiate career as the Griffins all-time leader in saves (432), wins (37), and shutouts (14). She was an All-CACC First Team selection in the 2010 when she and her classmates helped record the Griffins best finish as a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II institution (14-4-2, 10-1-1.

The women's soccer team returns to action as the #7 seed in the upcoming CACC Championship Tournament, which has been rescheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start at the home of the higher seeds on Sunday, October 28. The Griffins will stay local to face #2 Philadelphia University in Opening Round play.
