Field Set for CACC Women’s Soccer Championships; #7 Griffins to Travel to Ravenhill to Challenge #2 Lady Rams

Philadelphia, PA – (10/31/2011) – With the impending weather of Hurricane Sandy spinning up the east coast, the Opening Round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's and Men's Soccer Championship Tournaments have been moved to Sunday, October 28, and Monday, October 29, respectively. After finishing the regular season with a 7-5 CACC record, the #7 Chestnut Hill College women's soccer team will visit #2 Philadelphia University 12:00 p.m. kickoff for the CACC Opening Round.
 
Wilmington University earned the #1 seed for this year's women's championship tournament after topping the CACC standings with a 10-1-1 league record (10-6-2 overall). The Wildcats will host #8 Felician College in Opening Round play; additional Opening Round contests will feature #6 Holy Family University at #3 Caldwell College and #5 Nyack College at #4 Georgian Court University.
 
The Griffins return to the CACC Championship Tournament for the fourth consecutive season after producing an 8-10 overall record and a 7-5 league mark through highly-competitive schedule. Junior midfielder Carly DiGiovanni (Seaville, N.J.) and junior forward Kaelyn Pizarro (Berlin, N.J.) headlined the Griffins offense. DiGiovanni leads the Griffins and the CACC in goals (15) and points (33) while Pizarro has totaled 22 points on eight goals and a team-high six assists; all are individual bests. Defensively, the Griffins were anchored by the stellar goalkeeping of senior Jessica Veazey (Middletown, Del.), who earned a 7-9 record with four shutouts. She leads the CACC in saves (134) and ranks second save percentage (.793).
 
Semifinal contests will alternate on Thursday, November 3, starting with a men's game at 11:00 a.m. and followed by subsequent semifinal contests at 1:30 p.m., 4:00 p.m., and 6:30 p.m. The championship games will occur and 12:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, starting with the men's final. Tickets will be available for purchase at the field and concessions will be available throughout the tournament.
