Griffins Fall Off Tigers Trail

Philadelphia, Pa. – (11/1/2012) – Holy Family University made the most of their home court advantage as they dispatched Chestnut Hill College 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-16) in tonight's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match. The Tigers put the Griffins behind the ball with a decisive win in the opening set, 25-18, while in the final two sets saw the Griffins slow their cross-city rivals early before falling to two finishing runs.
                   
Holy Family University (13-17, 11-7) pounced on Chestnut Hill College (8-21, 4-14) early, quickly mounting a 17-9 advantage on the powerful blows of freshman outside hitter Emma Herring (Newtown, Conn.) and sophomore outside hitter Devyn Ingram (King of Prussia, Pa.). A late Griffin push cut the final deficit to 25-18, but it would not be enough to sway the Tigers momentum. The Tigers took the final two sets on 25-16 finals; in each case the Griffins stuck with the Tigers to a 14-10 margin before falling to an 11-6 finishing run.
 
Herring, Ingram, and junior middle blocker Sarah Ambach (Springboro, Ohio) all totaled ten kills a top the Tiger attack, which was fueled by 35 assists from sophomore setter Chelsea Keegan (Bucyrus, Ohio). On defense, freshman libero Mady Mcshane (Allentown, Pa.) helped Keegan captain the Tiger effort. Mcshane recorded eight digs, while Keegan added nine digs and a block to her offensive production.
 
Seven kills from junior outside hitter Alexandra DePalma (Shillington, Pa.), who topped the Griffins offensive output. At the point, sophomore setter Alyssa Tamsing (Ventura, Calif.) and senior setter Courtney Gallo (Wilmington Del.) split playing time while totaling 11 assists and ten assists, respectively. Freshman libero Deanna Bianchini (Blue Bell, Pa.) hustled to 15 digs at the center of the Griffin defense, DePalma supported her effort with eight digs.
 
The women's volleyball team concludes their 2012 schedule on Saturday, November 3, when they host Bloomfield College in a 1:00 p.m. CACC match. The Griffins will recognize seniors, Gallo and middle hitter Cassie Benson (Rosamond, Calif.) in an annual Senior Day ceremony.
