Alssene Saintilus (Irvington, N.J.) forced overtime with a thunder dunk, 70-70, before the Raiders won the affair in a high-scoring overtime period, 86-83. Junior guard
Jakeem Bogans (Philadelphia, Pa.) came off the bench to fuel the Griffins at Heiges Field House with 23 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
Shippensburg University (1-0) led by as many as 15, 63-48, with 7:40 remaining in regulation, but Bogans was nearly unstoppable in the Chestnut Hill College (1-2) reprise. The Griffins guard scored ten points in a 22-7 run that ended with Saintilus' game-tying flush, 70-70; he hit six straight free throw attempts (10-of-14, .741) and made two driving layups in the Griffins avenging run. Unfortunately, the Raiders seized the overtime edge, hitting free throw after free throw following a go-ahead lay-up from sophomore guard Akil Anderson (Lansdowne, Pa.), 74-73 (3:58).
Five from each side finished in double figures, for the Raiders sophomore guard Reggie Charles (Philadelphia, Pa.) led the way with 18 points, five rebounds, six assists, and two blocks. He was complimented by 15 points, four rebounds, and two steals by freshman guard Joe Lococo (Easton, Pa.), 13 points apiece from Anderson and junior forward Dylan Edgar (Shiremanstown, Pa.), and ten bench points from freshman guard Jay Hardy (Philadelphia, Pa.). Freshman forward Tony Ellis (Philadelphia, Pa.) led the Raiders rebounding effort with 12 boards.
Saintilus recorded his second career double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds in support of Bogan's career-high scoring performance. Senior guard
Mark DiRugeris Jr. (Woodbury, N.J.) and sophomore guard
Luke Dickson (Pitman, N.J.) each recorded 11 points, while senior guard
Francis Ashe (Hyattsville, Md.) finished with ten points; each contributed to a team defensive effort.
The men's basketball team will play Lock Haven University next in the 2012 Wolf's Bus Line Classic in a 3:00 p.m. contest on Saturday, November 17.
