2/11/2012 6:44:00 PM

Box Score Waterbury, CT – (2/11/2012) – The hot hand of sophomore guard Zach Krischer (Port Jefferson, NY) changed the direction of this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at Post University. The Eagles came from eight down, 19-11, to lead Chestnut Hill College by ten at halftime, 43-33, on Krischer's 4-of-5 (80.0%) first-half, three-point shooting performance. The Griffins cut the lead to one, 64-63, heading to the final four minutes (4:13) of play, but behind a preserving defensive front the Eagles held fast for a 79-75 victory.

Chestnut Hill College (17-9, 10-4) went to the paint early and often, allowing junior guard Mark DiRugeris Jr. (Woodbury, NJ) work off senior forward Dan Comas (Philadelphia, PA) for an early 19-11 Griffin lead (11:29). Post University (11-13, 9-6) responded with the Krischer's entry to the fray, he came off the home bench at 12:23 and by halftime, the Eagles controlled a 43-33 advantage. Krischer hit four threes in the period helping the Eagles outscore the Griffins 32-14 in the final 11:29. After halftime it was the Griffins who held the hot hand with DiRugeris igniting a 15-0 run that cut the deficit to one, 49-48, just before the 12-minute mark. Unfortunately, the Eagles never surrendered the lead. At the four-minute mark (4:13), the lead remained at one, 64-63, and after a pair of free throws from Jake Wilcox (Kent, WA) the Eagle junior guard made a clutch block to deny the Griffins answer and spur a fastbreak that ended in a three-point play for junior forward Jerry Cummings (La Plata, MD), and a six-point Eagle advantage, 69-63 (3:05). The Griffins had a chance with freshman guard Torrell Candelaria (Philadelphia, PA) hitting a three-pointer in the last four seconds, 78-75, but a Krischer free throw made would put the difference back at four, 79-75, for the final horn.

Kirscher finished with 21 points off the Eagle bench. He was complimented by the well-rounded play of Cummings, Wilcox, and junior forward Sarunas Jackson (Corona, CA). Cummings totaled 14 points, six rebounds, and four steals. Wilcox supplied nine points, four rebounds, nine assists, a block, and a steal. And Jackson offered 13 points, five rebounds, two blocks, and a steal.

Comas recorded his eighth double-double of the season with 19 points and 15 rebounds. He also provided three assists and a steal in the effort. DiRugeris led his support with 17 points and four rebounds while freshman forward Alssene Saintilus (Irvington, NJ) scored in double digits for the seventh time this season with ten points. He also grabbed six rebounds and made a steal. Junior guard Francis Ashe (Greenbelt, MD) was a contributor as well with eight points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

The men's basketball team continues their CACC scheduled with a weekend road trip to Post University. Tip-off is schedule for 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 11.
