Box Score Bloomfield, NJ – (2/18/2012) – In a tight matchup between two Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference rivals, the griffins fell short by a mere point. In today's contest the Chestnut Hill College Griffins (17-11, 10-6 CACC) fell to the Bloomfield College Deacons (21-6, 15-2 CACC) by a final score of 74-73. Freshman guard
Luke Dickson (Pitman, NJ) led the offensive force for the griffins recording 18 points and two steals. Dickson scored nine points alone from his masterful three-point shooting (3-of-4, 75%). Unfortunately the impressive offensive effort the Griffins was not enough in a game decided by one point.
In today's heated contest, the intensity proved to be too much for the Deacons as they were given a technical foul before the game even began. The Griffins jumped to a 5-0 lead in the first minute. The game went back and forth throughout the entire contest, as the first half came to a close the Griffins led by two, 33-31. During the second half the Deacons came out fighting and led the Griffins by eight, two times in the second half. But, the Griffins did not allow the Deacons to continue their dominance and came charging back to take the lead with 00:02 seconds left. With 00:02 seconds remaining the Deacons Matt Wafula managed to pull off the pivotal layup that would hand Bloomfield College the win and a heart-breaking loss to Chestnut Hill College.
Supporting Dickson with more offensive support was junior guard
Mark DiRugeris Jr. (Woodbury, NJ), senior forward
Dan Comas (Philadelphia, PA), and junior guard
Francis Ashe (Greenbelt, MD). DiRugeris provided the Griffins with 14 points, and went 4-of-4 (100.0%) from the free throw line. Comas also assisted the Griffins by providing the Griffins with 11 points and nine rebounds. And finally, Ashe helped the Griffins offensive force scoring ten points and seven defensive rebounds.
Sophomore guard Terry Hicks (Neptune, NJ) led the Deacons with 15 points, and also provided the Deacons with seven defensive rebounds. Assisting Hicks were freshman guard Marvin Williams (Jersey City, NJ) and senior guard Ahmad Harris (Linden, NJ). Williams and Harris supported Hicks by scoring 13 points apiece and had a combined 11 rebounds. On the defensive side of the Deacons sophomore forward Kevin Udo (West Orange, NJ) provided ten points, four blocks, and 11 rebounds.
The men's basketball team returns home to Sorgenti Arena this coming Tuesday, February 21, to host CACC rivals Goldey-Beacom College. During final game we will be recognizing our seniors for all of their efforts they have provided for Chestnut Hill College.
