Men’s Basketball To Battle Chargers In Opening Round of CACC Championship Tournament

2/22/2012 5:15:00 PM

New Haven, CT – (2/22/2012) – With an 11-6 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) record, Chestnut Hill College finished third in the league's South Division. Therefore, the Griffins will travel to #2N Dominican College for the opening round of the CACC Championship Tournament. The playoff contest is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off on Saturday, February 25. The Griffins defeated the Chargers 72-57 in this season's meeting at Sorgenti Arena.

Back on January 24, a poor first-half shooting performance (30.4%, 7-for-23) forced Chestnut Hill College (18-11, 11-6) to take ownership in the second period of play against Dominican College (18-8, 11-7). The Griffins scored 32 of their 52 second-half points in the paint and took the lead for good when junior guard Mark DiRugeris Jr. (Woodbury, NJ) landed them a 29-28 edge and triggered a 23-14 run with a successful drive to the lane at 16:31. The streak left the Griffins up ten, 52-42, with 8:47 left on the clock and the deficit would reach as many as 16, 66-50, on a DiRugeris three-pointer with 3:49 left to go. Despite a brief Charger run, spirited by freshman guard A.J. Burton (New Rochelle, NY), the Griffins coasted to the final buzzer. Senior forward Dan Comas (Philadelphia, PA) and freshman center Seamus Radtke (Philadelphia, PA) combined for 20 points and ten rebounds in the closing frame; Comas led the Griffins with 16 point and eight rebounds.
