Women’s Tennis Bests Devils In Non-Conference Match

Philadelphia, PA – (4/13/2012) – Chestnut Hill College swept doubles play and claimed all but number four singles to defeat the University of the Sciences (USciences) in 8-1 in a non-conference match this afternoon. The Griffins had little trouble dealing with the Devils, with sophomore Kelly Dennis (Cincinnati, OH) playing a perfect number two singles, 6-0, 6-0, and teaming with junior Nastia Shcherbakova (Minsk, Belarus) for an 8-1 number one double victory.
 
Following Dennis and Shcherbakova, freshman Morgan Oechsle (Coopersburg, PA) and junior Maria Parapouras (Victoria, Australia) teamed for an 8-0 win at number two doubles. Junior Danielle Knott (Mt. Vernon, NY) and freshman Alexis Puhl (Philadelphia, PA) completed the doubles sweep for Chestnut Hill College (19-6), winning number three doubles 8-3. Singles went just as well for the Griffins with Shcherbakova setting the tone at number one singles with a 6-1, 6-2 victory. Dennis' win only added to the Griffins momentum as Oechsle won number three singles 6-1, 6-0. Sophomore Olivia Stevenson (Philadelphia, NY) took number five singles by an 8-0 final and junior Regina Doherty (Southampton, PA) claimed the Griffins last point at number six singles, 8-2. USciences (1-9) earned their only point of the match at number four singles 8-2.
 
The women's tennis team concludes their 2011-2012 season at the College of New Jersey with a 4:00 match on Thursday, April 19.
