Box Score New Castle, Del. – (9/11/2012) – The Chestnut Hill College women's volleyball team opened their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule this evening at Wilmington University. The Wildcats were comfortable on their home court, scoring a 3-0 (25-5, 25-15, 25-20) over the Griffins. Sophomore setter
Alyssa Tamsing (Ventura, Calif.) gave a dynamic effort for the Griffins, leading on both sides of the net with 12 assists, four digs, and two blocks.
Wilmington University (9-2, 2-0) got out to a strong start with a .524 (13K-2E-21TA) hitting percentage in the opening set. After mounting a 19-1 edge, the Wildcats claimed a 25-5 win. Chestnut Hill College (3-6, 0-1) gave more of a fight in the second set, but the Wildcats pulled away late to take the frame 25-15. The third set followed the same scenario to the tune of a 25-20 final.
The Wildcats scored 13 aces with five coming from sophomore setter Kasey Couch (Woodbine, Md.). Couch also provided 20 assists. Junior middle hitter Katie Shorter (Pasadena, Md.) was the main benefactor of Couch's play, scoring ten kills in addition to four blocks. Freshman outside hitter Kaitlin DiGiacinto (Glen Burnie, Md.) was a versatile asset with seven kills, three aces, 11 digs, and two blocks.
For the Griffins, Tamsing was supported by freshman hitter
Abby Gruver (Coplay, Pa.), junior outside hitter
Alexandra DePalma (Shillington, Pa.), and freshman middle hitter
Rachel Biro (Nazareth, Pa.). Gruver totaled five kills and ten digs, DePalma recorded four kills and ten digs, and Biro finished with three kills and three blocks.
The women volleyball returns home and to non-conference play with a 7:00 p.m. match against Cheyney University on Thursday, September 13.
