9/19/2012 5:47:00 PM

Box Score New Castle, Del. – (9/19/2012) – The Chestnut Hill College women's soccer team ran their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win streak to three this afternoon, as they left Goldey-Beacom College with a 3-1 victory. Junior midfielder Carly DiGiovanni (Seaville, N.J.) recorded two goals in the win; heading the Griffins first tally, before helping senior midfielder Shannon Catts (Elmer, N.J.) locate sophomore forward Alexis LeDonne (Williamstown, N.J.) for the eventual game-winner.

Chestnut Hill College (3-4, 3-0) managed to grab the early lead despite Goldey-Beacom College (0-6, 0-5) holding a 10-4 first-half shooting edge. DiGiovanni completed a cross from junior defender Stephanie Litty (Marlton, N.J.) at 17:30 to give the Griffins the initial lead, but it was the effort of sophomore goalkeeper Samantha Pauls (South Plainfield, N.J.) and the defense that allowed the Griffins to hold their one-goal advantage. Just before the break, the Griffins welcomed an insurance goal from LeDonne, who scored a strike off a Catts-DiGovanni throw-in and flick at 43:07, 2-0. Following intermission, a fortunate bounce at 74:45 allowed the Lightning to cut the lead to 2-1, but the tension was soon relieved on a DiGiovanni rebound goal at 82:17, 3-1.

Senior goalkeeper Alyssa Vetrano (Ocean, N.J.) made four saves in the Lightning's losing effort (0-6), while junior forward Danielle Semenza (Hazel Township, Pa.) led their offense with six shots.

Junior forward Kaelyn Pizarro (Berlin, N.J.) was the initial striker on the late DiGiovanni rebound. Pauls earned her first collegiate win with five saves in the contest.

The women's soccer team continues their CACC schedule this weekend with a 12:00 p.m. contest at Caldwell College.
