Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. – (9/19/2012) – Battling in front of an enthusiastic Sorgenti crowd, Chestnut Hill College endured a gritty match with Goldey-Beacom College for their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory of the season, 3-1 (25-23, 19-25, 25-13, 26-24). Strong backline play allowed the Griffins to attack the Lightning efficiently as they hit .255 (61K-20E-161TA) as a team with three hitters finishing with at least ten kills.
Chestnut Hill College (5-8, 1-1) and Goldey-Beacom College (4-7, 0-3) split the first two sets, extending tonight's match to at least four sets. Fortunately, that is all it would take as the Griffins won the third set decidedly, 25-13, before terminating a stubborn Lightning squad in the fourth set, 26-24.
The Lightning were led by sophomore outside hitter Kadi McCoy (Dallastown, Pa.), who totaled 18 points on 17 kills, an ace, and ten digs. Her effort was supported by 19 assists from freshman setter Jamika Townsend (Suffolk, Va.) and 17 assists from senior setter Monica Dempsey (Secaucus, N.J.). Defensively, the Lightning combined for six blocks. Sophomore libero Niki Receveur (Wilmington, Del.) captained the effort with 17 digs.

Deanna Bianchini (Blue Bell, Pa.) recorded 24 digs, junior outside hitter
Alexandra DePalma (Shillington, Pa.) hustled to 16 digs, and freshman outside hitter
Abby Gruver (Coplay, Pa.) made 13 digs as the anchor of the Griffins strategy. Meanwhile on the front line, kills came from Gruver, 20, DePalma, 15, and junior middle hitter
Mary Markowski (Parkton, Md.), 12. Gruver was the Griffins top performer with 20.5 points on 20 kills (20K-6E-42TA, .333), 13 digs, and a block. It was her third career double-double.
The women's volleyball team remains home to host Concordia College (NY) in their next CACC match; a 1:00 p.m. opening serve is schedule for Saturday, September 22.
