Griffins Close CACC Season Series with Lady Rams

Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (10/25/2013) – After a short ride down Henry Avenue, Chestnut Hill College engaged their local Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rival, Philadelphia University, for the second time this season. The Lady Rams took the match's first two sets 25-22 and 25-13, before junior right side Kaitlyn Schock (Allentown, Pa.) and freshman outside hitter Madison McBride (Long Beach, Calif.) led the Griffins to a 27-25 third set victory. Unfortunately, the Lady Rams denied any chance at a rally with a closing 25-10 win, 3-1 (25-22, 25-13, 25-27, 25-10).
 
Philadelphia University (12-8, 11-2) stayed a couple points ahead of Chestnut Hill College (7-17, 5-8) for the whole way in a tightly played opening set, 25-22, before controlling play in the a 25-13 second-set win, 2-0. In the third set, the Griffins were neck and neck with the Lady Rams, until McBride and Schock delayed match for one more round with a furry of kills that earned the Griffins a 27-25 win, 2-1. Regrettably, the match would last only one set longer as the Lady Rams quickly put the rally to rest with a 25-10 fourth-set win, 3-1.
 
Senior libero Brittany Olson (Sycamore, Ill.) played well on both ends of the exchange with 14 kills and 23 digs for the Lady Rams. She was joined at the net by junior middle hitter Terra Ecker (Chapel Hill, N.C.) and sophomore middle hitter sophomore middle hitter Chelsea Hughes (Wading River, N.J.), who combined for 23 Lady Ram kills on a .328 (23K-4E-58TA) hitting percentage. Senior setter Heather Martin (Leola, Pa.) and sophomore setter Allyson Schillinger (Spring Hill, Fla.) combined for 38 assists while freshman defensive specialist Michele Chai (Sinking Spring, Pa.) led their defensive effort with 30 digs.
 
McBride and Schock hammered 11 kills apiece for the Griffins; McBride recording her 14th double-double of the season and Schock with her third double-digit kill performance in the last four matches. The Griffins offense also featured two setters with freshman setter Emily Drew (Ringoes, N.J.) and sophomore Alyssa Tamsing (Ventura, Calif.) teaming for 38 assists. Five Griffins recorded double-digit digs on defense, senior outside hitter Alexandra DePalma (Shillington, Pa.) and freshman libero Regina Trabosh (Norristown, Pa.) recorded 23 digs to headline the united defensive effort.
 
The women's volleyball team plays again tomorrow, Saturday, October 26, in a 12:00 p.m. CACC match at Bloomfield College.
