Philadelphia, Pa. – (10/17/2014) – Chestnut Hill College earned another important Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory this afternoon, sweeping both doubles and singles play to dismiss the University of the Sciences (USciences) by a 9-0 final.
USciences (9-4, 2-4) gave Chestnut Hill College (7-2, 6-1) little resistance as the Griffins rolled through doubles play with respective 8-0, 8-1, and 8-1 victories in the three team matches. Freshman
Hannah Hills (Maize, Kan.) and junior
Hayley Craskey (Aston, Pa.) were the first to finish off the Devils with their 8-1 win at number three doubles. Juniors
Iman Williams-Mulesa (Pickering, Ontario) and
Axe Owens (Trenton, N.J.) then earned the Griffins second point at number two doubles before seniors
Charlotte Dawson (Odessa, Texas) and
Morgan Oechsle (Coopersburg, Pa.) ended the round with their number-one doubles triumph.
Singles went just as smoothly for the Griffins, who conquered the bottom three singles matches before claiming the top three individual matches. Craskey was the first to finish her day, winning number five singles 6-0, 6-0. Soon after, Hills won at number six singles, 6-0, 6-0, and Owens followed with her 6-2, 6-0 victory at number four singles. Then, at number three singles Oechsle turned in a 6-0, 6-1 win before the top two individual flights ended in order; Dawson winning 6-0, 6-0, at number one singles and Williams-Mulesa triumphing at number two singles, 6-1, 6-1.
The women's tennis team heads right back into the fire as they host CACC-leading Concordia College (NY) in an 11:00 a.m. league match tomorrow, Saturday, October 18.
