Samuel Mondello (Staten Island, N.Y.) reclaimed Chestnut Hill College's men's eight-kilometer (8K) record with his time of 27:24 earning him a 27th place finish at the Gettysburg College Invitational. Meanwhile, sophomore
Paige Antall (Hanover Township, Pa.) continued to pace the Griffin women, running 98th (25:40) in the women's six-kilometer (6K) run. Bucknell University took both team championships, totaling 35 points with three of the top-four women's finishers and 75 points with two of the top-five men's runners.
Mondello led a trio of Chestnut Hill College men under twenty-minutes as the former record holder, freshman
Giancarlo Martines (Cherry Hill, N.J.) ran 53rd (27:32) and fellow sophomore
Eric Barton (Colora, Md.) ran 69th (27:51). This marked only the second time in program history that three runners broke the twenty-eight minutes barrier in the same race. Also scoring were sophomore
Christian Leary (West Babylon, N.Y.), who ran a 31:31, in 279th place and junior
Manon Purnell (Philadelphia, Pa.), who ran a 31:53, in 287th. Junior
Daniel Repsik (Haddonfield, N.J.) was the Griffins final finisher, crossing the line a personal record 32:55 (306th).
After Antall, freshman
Emily Benson-Abatangelo (East Meadow, N.Y.) was next across the line in 234th (27:52) and she was followed a minute later by sophomore
Lea Sanders (North Merrick, N.Y.), at 28:56 (284th) and sophomore
Susan Abraham (Staten Island, N .Y.), at 29:11 (295th). Freshman
Tatiana Regan (South Setauket, N.Y.) was the final scorer for the Griffins with her 304th-place run (29:37). Senior
Mary Markowski (Parkton, Md.) completed the 6K in 33:03 (355th).
The men's and women's cross country teams will compete next on Sunday, November 2, when they return to Belmont Plateau for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship meet.
